SOCIAL WISDOM OF MARUEE

Abstract

Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai is the renowned poet of Sindh widely celebrated for his poetic excellence, visionary lessons and cultural understanding. His melodies are replete with natural, symbolic and meaningful themes. His ideas conveyed through his verses are thought-provoking. This research paper attempts to investigate and analyze the social sagacity of one of her heroines Maruee. Maruee is a renowned and revered character in Latif's poetry. She stands as the symbol of patriotism, icon of simplicity, epitome of excellence deeply rooted to the values of her land. Latif portrays her as a cultural queen who forsakes worldly gains for her values and fellows. Her character represents village life, love, grace, and simplicity and seep attachment with her roots. However, this paper investigates the element of wisdom, social sagacity and understanding of values in the character of Maruee. Setting Maruee as an example of social wisdom, Latif invites his readers to tread on the path of Maruee. It is sheer dint of her wisdom and social sagacity that she thwarted every attempt of her oppressor and strived for her salvation. This research is going to add another dimension in plethora of research done in the field of Sindhi literature and study of Shah Latif's poetry.
