Abstract

Syed Rakhyal Shah and Syed Cheezal Shah are famous Sufi poets, there poetry is found in various languages and is listened to across all provinces of the country and even in foreign Countries. However, the intellectual message of their poetry resonates particularly in the corners of Sindh and Balochistan. They are excellent poets of `kafi` (a form of poetry). Syed Rakhyal Shah was born on 17thRabi-ul-awal,1262 Hijri, (March 14, 1846) in the house of Syed Noor Muhammad Shah, at the village of Haleem Shah, Tahsil Tanboo, Disrict Nasirabad, Balochistan. He passed away on Monday the 7th of Rabi-ul-Sani 1359 Hijri, (May 14, 1940) His shrine is located in the area oh Bhag Nari. His collection of works, titled “Bahr-ul-Ishq” (the Ocean of Love) has been published several times. Due to his intellectual brilliance and unique poetic talent, he composed poetry in 21 musical modes, creating 564 Kafis, 150 Ghazals and in other Forms of Poetry. Syed Cheezal Shah was a Sufi saint, his real name was Syed Abdul Aziz Shah. He was born in the house of Syed Rakhyal Shah at Fatihpur Sharif on 15th of Jamad ul Sani, 1332 Hijiri (April 1914). He passed away on Wednesday,15th Shaban 1404 Hijiri. His poetry includes 190 creations in the genres of Hamad, Maolud, Qasida, Marsia, Ghazal and Kafis. He composed Poetry in 22 musical modes and apart from the modes his poetry includes the modes Kalangro, Rano and Basant. There are many similarities between the poetry of Syed Rakhyal Shah and Syed Cheezal Shah. This article provides study of similarities in their poetry, focusing on the technical intricacies of their couplets. The purpose of this study is to examine, evaluate, explore, compare and identify similarities in the poetry of both poets.
