Abstract

Ten rabbits were presented with clinical signs of alopecia, intense itching, erythema and dry crusty lesions on eyes, ears, nose, legs, genital areas and dorsal region of the body. Skin scrapings revealed Sarcoptes scabiei mites. Treatment was initiated with subcutaneous injections of ivermectin @ 400 µg/kg body weight every 7th day on 3 occasions and multivitamins as supportive therapy at 10 drops once a day was given for early recovery. After 3 weeks of treatments, clinical examination revealed marked improvement of lesions, and skin scrapings were negative for mites. No relapse of infestation was observed in any of the rabbits under treatment during the 6 month observation period following the treatment.
