Realism in Literature

Abstract

Realist thought emerged in 19 century with full of enthusiasm and attraction. Russian writers played prominent role to strengthen the movement with Chekhov, Ghorke, Talistai, Dosto Wiski being its century proved to be favorable pioneers. 20 political -for sociomovements. The 1917th revolution of Russia created enthusiasm and spirit among the people. It cultivated strength and dare among the public for struggle. The revolution enlightened the people with the progressive ideas and brought them on right track. Russian revolution inspired people around the world and it created consciousness among the people about century inflicted irreparable their rights. Two world wars during the 20losses to the world, however, it also created spirit for struggle to establish a new world for them. Consequently, literature became mouth piece of life. These circumstances left spillover effects on India also. By 1915 under the influence of these circumstances number of socialist movements started in India. Literary works during the said period focused on social issues including superseded norms and values, poverty, unemployment, dowry, unmatched marriages etc. like contemporary languages, Sindhi literature also remained focused on almost same issues. It was for the first time that in 1927 Jethmal Pursram raised voice against capitalist system by writing stories “Chamra Posh” and gradually realist movement got strength in Sindhi literature. Realist thinkers discouraged exaggeration and extension, and introduced the tradition to depict factual aspects of circumstances, society and human life. Hither to romantic writers emphasized exaggeration to a greater extent that literature was considered to be incomplete without it, however, realists made truth and authenticity the foundation of literature.
