Threatened Species of Ranikot Rort area a Historical Heritage of Sindh Pakistan

Abstract

Ranikot is a talismanic wonder of Sindh, which is visible about 5 km way over the hills. Every structure in the Ranikot has its own uniqueness and beauty. During the investigation on the vegetation of Ranikot fort it has been observed that two very important plant species Commiphora wightii (Arn) Bhandari Vern Gugur and Acacia nilotica (Linn.) delile. Vern. Bhabur, Kaker. are endangered due to the frequent use of local people, ignorance of Tourism department and conservation department . I have been visiting study area since 2003 and drastic changes have been observed in the appearance of both species. Gugur is the rare species of Sindh, medicinally important and economically important tree which is only found in Thar desert and ranikot fort area but unfortunately it is near to disappear from the site area. Accacia is also in a very poor condition. Tourism department should take notice to save the vegetation of the historic site area, which is supposed to be the largest fort of the world.
