Abstract

Rural Population distribution has remained an important field of study of researchers in less developed countries like Pakistan where is about 68 per cent of population live in rural areas. It is an important measure of determining man- land relationship. Therefore rural population distribution is generally linked with the distribution of cultivated land and cropped area. The quantitative analysis like population density, location quotient, population potential, Lorenz curve and Gini coefficient are generally used by population researchers to analyse rural population distribution. In this paper an attempt is made to apply the above quantitative techniques in the study of rural population distribution in Sindh which is one of the province of Pakistan. The principal component analysis has been applied to extract variables and to determine components which explain rural population distribution.
