Dr. Molvi Mohammad Shafi's letters to Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Khan

Abstract

These letters were written to Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Khan in response to the guidance sought by him, earlier regarding his Ph.D research and, later, about many other literary issues during 1940 and 1960. These letters have been published many times over from 1955 to 2003 in journals and in books including autobiography of Dr. Ghulam Mustafa Khan as well as written about him, authored by his students. But all these publications lacked explanatory notes that are imperative to compose hand and appreciate the encyclopedia knowledge of the wirter, Dr. Molvi Mohammad Shafi, a scholar par excellence. This article reproduces those 17 letters along with delectated explanatory notes that provide historical back ground of poets, scholars, historians and rulers dispiestives referred in these letters.
