Urdu Poetry in Rohailkhand.

Abstract

Afghan's and Arab settlers in the Roah region of central Afghanistan when forced to migrate southward, settled in the reign from Kabul to Multan, joining services of the local lords in their arrimes. War lords in the northern Indian region also sought their service to strengthen their armies, providing those Afghans opportunity to move south and settle in the Himalyan foothill region, KATHER that for resemblance to their distant homeland named by these settler as Rohailkhand. Mullah Noori of Akber's period, hailing from Bijnor district is deemed the first Urdu poet of Rohailkhand. Similarly, a Masnavi "Luluaz Ghaib" written by Shavelal of Anola district, Rohailkhand in 1690, is another pioneering link to the Urdu poetry in the reign. Urdu poetry was given boost by Nawab Ali Muhmmad Khan, founder of the Rohailkhand Government, who patronized Urdu poetry and literature. Other outstanding Urdu poets of Rohailkhand are Nawab Inayat Khan, Nawab Muhammad Yar Khan, Amir Quaim Chandpuri, Kabir Ali Sambahli, Parvana Ali Shah Muradabadi, Naimullah Khan Naiem, Ghulam Ali Ishrat Brailvi, Ishqui Muradabadi, Azimullah Qudrat, Nawab Abdul Aziz Khan Aziz and Nawab Muhabat Khan Muhabat. They Introduced new directions, style and themes in Urdu poetry and this progression reached Lukhnow.
