Abstract

Psycho-linguistics is a sub-field of linguistics. Also known as the psychology of language, psycholinguistics is the study of the connection between language and psychology. Since it is an interdisciplinary field, the sub-divisions of psycho-linguistics include different components that are considered parts of linguistics and/or psychology or other disciplines such as medical science. Therefore, psycho-linguistic studies cover areas like language learning, language acquisition, aphasia, speech-language therapy, dyslexia, second language, learning difficulties and impairments, bilingualism, and topics related to the connection between language and culture. This paper also discusses Noam Chomsky's concept of Universal Grammar (UG) and the term Post-Chomsky and linguistics. As psycho-linguistics is among the issues rarely discussed in Urdu, this research paper presents an overview of topics related to psych-linguistics and also offers some Urdu equivalents of the common terms used while discussing psycho-linguistics in English.
