Abstract

Letters are a valuable source of research while compiling the biography and sketching the personality of a writer, as they are the true reflection of one's thinking pattern. Dagh was an outstanding poet of the nineteenth-century who wrote romantic and sensuous poetry and laid a great emphasis on Urdu idioms and their usage. He wrote many letters to nawabs, his disciples, and friends. They are rich sources of biographical information. Dagh also wrote some letters to the courtesans of that times without hiding his inner feelings as such they present his amateurish nature. This article is a research-based study of his letters as a vital source of Dagh's biographical information and personality analysis.
