Abstract

Maulana Zafar Ali Khan (January 17, 1874, to November 27, 1956) was a pensive poet, writer, literary commentator, translator, and journalist having a unique and notable standing in Urdu literature. This dissertation is a research study of "Allusions" in Maulana's work. It is divided into two segments. The first reflects the definition and brief historical evolutionary continuation of one of the poetic figures "Allusion" along with a brief study of the variances in "Allusions" during the 20th century. The second part consists of the research study and explanations of the usage of the "Allusion" in Maulana Zafar Ali Khan's work. Maulana Zafar Ali Khan was one of the early 20th century poets who used "Allusions" with classical and modern paradigms. He used historical references of the age in his poetry through the poetical figure "Allusion," and it is the reason his poetry has some important referential elements. The dissertation will help to study Maulana's work with historical references of the 20th century.
