Abstract

A few decades back, means of communication was just print media, i.e. newspapers, then it included electronic media, i.e., radio and television, and now social media has become a big part of it, like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Hence, its scope grew wider and communication has gone speedier. These means of communication are making the masses aware of current affairs in a very effective manner. Moreover, they provide entertainment for them. In addition, they are transmitting knowledge of every field like literature, religion, politics, etc. However, there is a negative aspect of this activity, too, that is, Urdu means of communications are using English words, phrases, idioms, sentences, and proverbs in abundance, though their Urdu substitutions are available. This trend of using English words, phrases, etc. is a big question mark on the progress of Urdu. The research article under study deals with the use of English words, phrases, etc. in Urdu newspapers, such words, and phrases, etc. whose Urdu substitutions are available but are not used.
