METHODS OF 2D- READOUT FOR MWPCS AND THEIR APPLICATION ?? POSITRON EMISSION TOMOGRAPHY

Abstract

A recently developed detection principle for gamma rays offers the prospect of improving the performance of positron emission tomograph scanners. This detection principle is based on the use of BaF2 Scintillator and photosensitive multi wire proportional chambers (MWPCs). Here we present the various methods used in 2D readout with particular attention to the requirements of a MWPC- based PET (Positron Emission Tomography) medical imaging system.
