Hydraulic Modeling of Natural Waterways of left bank of River Indus in Sindh with HEC-RAS

Abstract

The heavy monsoon rainfall of 2011 in Sindh brought great miseries for the people of the area. Looking at the quantum of runoff generated the need for additional drainage facilities in the area were felt. It was observed that in addition to the Left Bank Outfall Drainage (LBOD) system working in the area, a large amount of water got drained due to natural waterways in the area. An analysis is thus carried out to ascertain the conveyance carrying capacity of the natural waterways using HEC-RAS software. The results show great potential for draining rainwater with the revival of these waterways
