Finite element simulation of Steady Newtonian Blood flow in Carotid artery bifurcation
Main Article Content
Abstract
Blood flow simulation in carotid artery bifurcation is presented here. Newtonian flow is considered for the modeling of carotid artery flow using Finite element method. Fluid-structure interaction between the wall and blood is neglected and rigid carotid artery is considered here. Simulation is performed at various Reynolds numbers on both normal and stenotic carotid arteries. Parameters of interests, like, shear-stress and velocity are obtained in detail through a stenotic carotid artery bifurcation for the obstruction ratio, ranging from 30% to 80%. For the purpose of numerical simulation, Semi-implicit Taylor-Glarkin Pressure-Correction Finite element Method (Townsend and Webster, 1987) is employed here.
