Abstract

Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world. It is consisted of five main islands (Sumatra Java-Kalimantan Borneo Sulawesi), thirty smaller archipelagos and 17508 (one third of this i.e 6000 are inhabited only) islands and islets. Actually, the name Indonesia is derived from the combination of two greek words, i-e Indos meaning India and Nesos meaning islands. It is situated on the cross road of two oceans viz Indian & Pacific, therefore bridges between Asia and Australia.
